T-Com contracted digicast at the beginning of 2005 for the creation of a design and technology study for an internet-enabled videophone. This was done within the framework of T-Com’s “Triple Play” strategy for the German market, which integrates Internet, multimedia and telephony services.

T-Com was looking for a solution that would allow a regular phone (analog or IP-based) to be extended into a mobile videophone. For this purpose, a compact and user-friendly device was supposed to be connected to the phone. digicast was tasked to further develop technical aspects of T-Com’s market strategic consideration and to create a visually appealing prototype.

As one of the first companies in Europe to have access to the new development environment for the BSP-15 chip from Pixelworks, digicast used this chip as the platform for embedded programming of the Linux-based device. This design and technology study became one of T-Coms major attractions in March 2005 at CeBIT – only six weeks after digicast was assigned with the task.
