An error free, time sensitive data transfer has to be guaranteed when using data intensive multimedia services. This is the goal of Quality-of-Service practices (QoS) and includes the prioritization of data traffic, the reservation of broadband for certain services, the optimization of data packets, etc. Due to their high cost for the specific technology, these practices are not available to end users.

QoS is one of the most important requirements for the success of new telephony, multimedia and TV products for private users within a market with such immense growth potential. Digicast analyzed which devices are common in private networks in Germany, which quality of service methods are already used in IP networks, and which QoS functions should be integrated in future products. digicast organized a knowledge transfer by a QoS specialist which also contributed to a solid decision base in the T-Home project.
